About us

Douglas Mercer and Sons Funeral Directors have been serving the local community since the early 1900’s. Douglas ‘Pop’ Mercer ran the funeral business from the family home in Alma Terrace until acquiring premises in Sedlescombe Road North in the late 1950’s. Beautiful chapels of rest were added in 1976 creating peaceful surroundings for families to visit their loved ones. DC Mercer Funeral Directors continues to deliver the same first class service upon which the business was built, in line with the traditional values of the founders.

We will take care of all aspects of arranging and conducting your funeral service including floral tributes, obituary notice, catering or even supplying a horse-drawn hearse if required. Our branch has a private chapel of rest.

If for any reason you are unable to visit our office we are happy to come and see you in the comfort of your own home. Whilst this web site provides a range of general practical advice and should answer many of your questions, please do not be afraid to contact us for further help or advice on any aspect of the funeral service.

After the funeral we are able to offer a range of memorials from a simple grave marker to full headstone and kerb set.

Your concerns for the future can also be catered for with our full range of pre-paid funeral plans.
